Role overview:

Come join the PlayStation Studios Quality Assurance team – This is a great opportunity to join a global team that supports PlayStation Studios & their projects! Not only that, but PlayStation Studios QA is an incredible place to work (and play)!

As a Technical Test Lead, you will be working within the Test Services team to provide excellent technical testing services to PlayStation Studios across the globe. You will work with QA and Studio Engineering teams to develop and roll out global test strategies, tools, automation suites/solutions and processes related to the technical test (non-functional) aspects of titles/products in test. Not only that, but you will also work with ground-breaking hardware and video games within a large multicultural, multi-region team; helping us drive and build the future of games & games testing.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide technical (non-functional) test leadership and guidance across PSS QA Test Services teams and titles/products, with emphasis on PC, AI, and Automation test strategies
  • Provide leadership support for PSS QA Automation Consultancy Teams (ACT)
  • Coordinate PSS QA ACT effort to develop, maintain, and execute automated test cases for game features, mechanics, and performance
  • Consult on improvement and integration of automation framework provided by PSS QA Quality Engineering group for test team utilization
  • Play a critical role in shaping and executing strategy for PC platform testing, including working closely with Studios and QA partners to develop and elevate PC test strategy
  • Drive development and implementation of the PSS QA AI test framework
  • Collaborate with PSS QA Quality Engineering and Test Leads to establish best practices for test automation, QA workflows, and repeatable test methodologies
  • Support continuous integration (CI) pipelines with automated tests to ensure stability in daily builds

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in game testing, preferably with lead level experience
  • 2+ years of experience (or equivalent) in QA engineering and/or a technical testing role
  • Excellent technical competence, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and change management skills
  • Proficiency with bug-tracking tools/software (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, etc.)
  • Experience with game test automation/custom game automation frameworks
  • Ability to author wiki/confluence content for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Working understanding/experience with existing AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
  • Working understanding/experience with game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity, etc.)
  • Knowledge of game development processes, including agile workflows and version control systems (e.g., Perforce, Git, SVN, etc.)
  • Experience with logs, crash reports, and debugging tools
  • Strong understanding of game mechanics, networking, and performance optimization
  • Experience testing across console and PC game platforms

Nice to have:

  • 1+ years in a team leadership/management role
  • Experience with using AI alongside game test processes (e.g., test process, planning, reporting, improvement, etc.)
  • College/Graduate Degree in Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Communications, Project Management, Business Intelligence, or other QA related field
  • Cross-cultural/global working experience
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C, C#, C++, etc.)
  • Knowledge of network testing, server-client interactions, and online game testing methodologies
  • Experience with Agile techniques (Kanban, SCRUM, etc.)
  • Background in load testing and stress testing for multiplayer games
  • Familiarity with performance profiling tools like Unreal Insights

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$110,500 - $165,700 USD
