Job Summary:

The CG Animation Lead is responsible for leading the animation team to create high-quality computer-generated animations for film projects. This role involves overseeing the development and execution of all CG animation, ensuring that the artistic vision is achieved while meeting technical and production requirements. The CG Animation Lead works closely with directors, producers, and other department heads to deliver animations that enhance the storytelling and visual appeal of the film.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of CG animators, providing guidance and feedback
    • Assign tasks and manage workloads to ensure timely delivery of animation sequences
    • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment
  • Creative Direction:
    • Collaborate with directors and VFX supervisors to understand the creative vision
    • Develop animation styles and techniques that align with the project's aesthetic
    • Oversee the creation of character animations, environmental effects, and other CG elements
  • Technical Oversight:
    • Ensure that all animations meet technical specifications and are compatible with the production pipeline
    • Work with technical directors to troubleshoot and resolve animation-related issues
    • Implement best practices for animation workflows and processes
  • Quality Control:
    • Review animation work for quality, consistency, and adherence to the project's vision
    • Provide constructive feedback to animators to improve performance and outcomes
  • Production Coordination:
    • Coordinate with producers and project managers to align animation schedules with overall production timelines
    • Participate in production meetings and contribute to planning and problem-solving
  • Innovation and Development:
    • Stay updated on the latest animation software, tools, and industry trends
    • Encourage the adoption of new technologies and techniques to enhance animation quality
    • Provide training and development opportunities for the animation team

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in CG animation within the film industry
    • A strong demo reel showcasing a strength in character performance

  • Skills:
    • Expertise in animation software such as Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, or similar tools
    • Strong understanding of animation principles, character rigging, and motion capture data
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills
    • Exceptional artistic ability and attention to detail
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet production schedules
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, including modeling, rigging, lighting, and compositing teams
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python) is a plus
  • Experience with virtual production techniques is advantageous
