Sr Software Engineer - MLE/AI

About the Role

AI team’s mission is to create highly relevant and efficient solutions for Uber Freight customers and operations team by leveraging the power of data and AI. We are building autonomous GenAI Conversational Assistants and Agent Co-pilot systems to drive efficiency and streamline Logistics Operations. We are solving challenges such as document analysis and multi-modal (images + text for now and in future voice) conversational intelligence, autonomous reasoning and policy-adherence, and Agentic AI. We are a full-stack AI team working on LLM research, rapid model prototyping, robust evaluation and monitoring at scale. We are looking for candidates with deep expertise in ML / GenAI and end-to-end experience launching large scale AI models in production. 

You will lead Generative AI initiatives by identifying step change opportunities, researching latest techniques, guiding the team in end-to-end AI development and working with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver AI solutions in production creating significant business value. 

What the Candidate Will Do

Basic Qualifications

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience.  

• Proven experience with designing and implementing machine learning models in production environments applied to generative AI, applications of large language models. 

• Experience with one or more of Python, Go, Java.  

• Proficiency in using Python for developing ML models and handling large-scale data sets. 

• Hands-on experience with building batch data pipelines. 

Preferred Qualifications

• BS, MS or PhD degree in computer science, Data Science, ML or equivalent practical experience. 

• Experience shipping high-quality product features on schedule.  

• Experience handling complex problems at scale.  

• Experience with one of the following databases: MySQL, Oracle.  

• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.  

• Proven experience with leading projects and mentoring junior engineers.  

• Knowledge of the logistics and freight industry is a plus.
