As the Senior Director, Technology & Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the way engineering happens at Zip. Reporting to the CIO ANZ, this role leads a central enablement and standards function spanning Security, Quality Engineering, DevOps and Site Reliability, while working closely with product engineering teams to define and deliver modern application architecture, tooling and developer experience across Zip.

You’ll bring the technical leadership, credibility and system-level thinking needed to influence at scale, governing Zip’s architectural frameworks, uplifting engineering maturity, and embedding reusable patterns, golden paths and cloud-based automation that make life easier for our engineers.

What you’ll own

  • Shape and deliver Zip’s technology and engineering strategy across architecture, automation, CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
  • Lead and empower specialist teams across Security, Quality Engineering, SRE and DevOps to create reusable frameworks and scalable, cloud-native solutions that uplift delivery velocity.
  • Partner with Product Engineering and Architecture to define Zip’s target state application architecture, ensuring alignment and consistency across platforms.
  • Drive continuous improvement in developer experience, standardisation and automation through intelligent use of AI, modern frameworks and self-service tooling.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across system design, code quality and engineering disciplines, balancing strategic influence with practical application.
  • Champion secure and resilient engineering practices that support safe, scalable delivery and cloud (AWS) excellence.
  • Mentor future technology leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and collaboration across Zip’s engineering community.

What you'll bring to the team

  • Career built in software engineering and architecture as well as technology leadership, ideally with experience as a Principal Engineer, CTO or similar.
  • Deep technical expertise in system and application architecture, design patterns and modern software engineering practices.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, engineering frameworks and developer tooling that accelerate delivery and quality.
  • A strong understanding of cloud-native design and AWS, with the ability to create “golden paths” that enable fast, secure and consistent delivery.
  • Exceptional ability to influence and inspire engineers through credible, hands-on technical leadership.
  • Track record of uplifting engineering maturity and fostering a high-trust, high-performance culture across diverse technical teams.
  • Experience leading Security, SRE, Quality or DevOps functions a plus, but a passion for empowering software engineers is essential.
  • A mindset that embraces AI and new tools to adapt, learn and grow.
