Lead Machinist
Recon Craft is seeking a Lead Machinist will be responsible for receiving part drawings and 3D files from our engineering department, determine if any specialized tooling or fixtures are required, and manufacture the parts with our CNC and manual machining equipment. The Lead Machinist will have a team of 2-3 operators that will report to them for work assignments and scheduling. The Lead Machinist will also be responsible for any QA/QC checks on final parts, as well as documenting dimensions and QC hold points in a traveler. The individual in this role will report to the Operations Manager and will lead a weekly scheduling meeting to discuss workload and priorities to match production schedules for all projects.
This hands-on role requires exceptional competence in all phases of CNC and Manual machining operations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Receiving files to apply NC toolpaths in various 3D file formats - primary CAM work will be performed with the SolidWorks CAM Plugin on a company supplied laptop.
- Utilize machining and assembly drawings to understand various setups, critical features, and dimensions on completed parts.
- Identify parts that will need customized fixturing or setups, design new and unique fixturing as needed, and set up new processes and techniques to complete parts as designed.
- Organize parts to be completed by the various machines, personnel, and schedule priority.
- Work closely with the Pre-Fabrication Supervisor to improve the machining workflows while continuously improving procedures and processes for complex and unique designs.
- Thorough understanding of different tools, equipment, and software that will simplify and expedite the machining processes.
- Capture and document red lines on drawings IAW company redline procedures.
- Knowledge and know-of with manual machining methods (e.g., lathe).
- Maintain a safe and clean machining facility
- Other tasks as required to support the company’s objectives and growth
Work Experience:
Lead Machinist/Programmer will have 5-8 years’ experience in a CNC machine shop programming and operating vertical mills and horizontal turning centers. Candidates will have experience leading a small team to complete tasks on time and delegating tasks appropriately. Experience with CAD/CAM software required, experience with SolidWorks and associated CAM plugin a plus.

- Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- High School Diploma (GED) or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to pass background check.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, understanding drawing symbols and notes, and performing detailed redlines to support production efficiency.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, read production travelers, and adhere to standard safety and quality control procedures.
- Experience with CAM software and programming for CNC Machining operations.
- Must have computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Attention to detail and accuracy while working within a fast-paced production environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50lbs from the floor.
- Standing for long period of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching are generally required.
- Ability to work long hours, when required, to meet deadlines and other deliverables.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- Machine tool training certificates.
- SolidWorks training certificate.
- SolidWorks PDM experience.
- AAS degree in an applicable machine tool field.
- Demonstrated leadership with a team of 3 or more personnel.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the company, department, and contracts.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
