International Controller - Associate

About the Role

iCapital is seeking an Associate to join the International Corporate Finance team in Lisbon. This role will support the accounting, financial close, tax, treasury, statutory reporting, and audit processes for multiple international entities across EMEA and APAC. The Associate will work closely with internal finance teams, local accounting providers, external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders to help ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, and timely delivery of key finance priorities.

Responsibilities

International Accounting and Financial Close

  • Support the accounting and financial reporting processes for multiple international legal entities across EMEA and APAC.
  • Coordinate with local accounting firms and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, intercompany transactions, and account reconciliations.
  • Review trial balances and general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packages.
  • Ensure accounting records comply with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and local accounting providers regarding corporate income tax, VAT/GST, and other local tax compliance requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of tax filings and tax-related supporting schedules and support tax audits across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor compliance deadlines and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.

Audit and Statutory Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements and audit support documentation.
  • Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
  • Coordinate information requests between auditors, local accounting providers, and internal teams.

Treasury and Cash Management

  • Perform bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
  • Monitor cash positions across international entities.
  • Process payments, intercompany funding transactions, and other treasury-related activities.

Process Improvement and Controls

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Support automation initiatives and finance transformation projects.
  • Assist in maintaining a strong internal control environment across international operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of accounting, audit, or financial reporting experience.
  • Previous experience in a Big Four accounting firm strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with multinational entities or international accounting environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Exposure to corporate tax compliance and audit processes preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems is an advantage.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive, team-oriented, and eager to work in a fast-paced international environment.
