ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to contribute to the development of our next-generation SaaS platform and Developer Ecosystem. The Organizations API Platform is building the foundation for how organizations connect to and work with ID.me. Our goal is to enable internal & external developers to onboard, configure, and manage their organization data, applications, and policies through secure, well-designed APIs.
Our vision is to become the trusted backbone for organizational identity at ID.me, where every organization, application, and relationship is seamlessly managed through secure, self-service APIs.
This role is ideal for a seasoned technical leader with deep experience building API-first platforms, multi-tenant architectures, and infrastructure that supports external and internal developers at scale. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, product-focused environment and is passionate about designing secure, scalable APIs, enabling great developer experiences, and driving platform excellence through modern engineering practices.
The position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
Responsibilities
- Platform Architecture - Design and evolve scalable, secure, and extensible APIs as the foundation of organizational identity at ID.me. Champion an API-first, platform-first mindset across the engineering team.
- Developer Experience - Work closely with the Developer Experience team to deliver intuitive, self-service onboarding. Ensure APIs, SDKs, and documentation are easy to use, well-structured, and enable smooth integration by both internal and external developers.
- Multi-Tenant Enablement - Contribute to the evolution of the platform into a robust multi-tenant system, with clearly scoped environments, policy management, and efficient resource isolation.
- Technical Leadership - Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers. Drive best practices in service design, reliability engineering, and modern DevOps tooling across the platform.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with Product, Identity Graph, and app teams to align platform capabilities with strategic goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in backend software engineering, including API development for customer-facing products.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Go, Python, or similar building distributed systems, RESTful services, and integrating with cloud services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building and scaling multi-tenant SaaS platforms or developer-focused products
- Strong understanding of API design, versioning strategies, and contract-first development practices
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP), infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform), and modern CI/CD pipelines
- Working knowledge of identity and access management standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or SAML
- Proficient in monitoring, logging, and observability using tools like Prometheus, Datadog, or similar
- Experience building high-reliability systems with a focus on performance, fault tolerance, and operational excellence
The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.

$183,367 - $214,500 USD
Mountain View, CA Pay Range
$217,565 - $260,000 USD
