Your Role at impact.com:

We are looking for a highly motivated Data Science Intern to join us. This is a great opportunity for an final year undergraduate student who is excited to learn how data science works in a real-world setting. You’ll gain hands-on experience with data exploration, modelling, and teamwork, while contributing to projects that matter.


This is a six month hybrid internship role at our Cape Town office.

What You'll Do:

As an intern, you’ll be supported by experienced mentors and team members. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Learn & Explore: Get exposure to the tools and techniques data scientists use every day, including coding, data visualisation, and machine learning.
  • Work with Data: Help gather, clean, and prepare data for analysis using SQL, Python and libraries like pandas and NumPy.
  • Support Modelling Projects: Assist in building and testing basic machine learning models for tasks such as classification, prediction, or clustering.
  • Experimentation & Analysis: Participate in analysing data, testing hypotheses, and interpreting results.
  • Build Prototypes: Contribute to simple, working models or visualisations that demonstrate how data science can solve real problems.
  • Collaborate: Work with other data scientists, engineers, and product managers on shared goals.
  • Communicate Your Work: Document what you learn and present your findings clearly—both in writing and in meetings.

What You Have:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Basic understanding of programming (preferably Python) and a willingness to learn libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
  • Basic proficiency in SQL.
  • Familiarity with concepts in statistics or introductory machine learning is a plus.
  • Comfortable working with data and eager to learn how to turn data into insights.
  • Good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a team.
  • A growth mindset—willing to try, fail, ask for help, and keep improving.
