We're looking for a Chief of Staff (m/f/d) with a strong background in managing engineering projects and driving strategic initiatives to join one of our portfolio company's groundbreaking team. In this role you'll play a key role in co-ordinating roadmap delivery, driving organisational development, and guiding the strategic direction of the Tech department. You act as a trusted partner to the CTO, supporting decision-making and execution while enhancing leadership capacity. This position is ideal for an experienced engineering professional with a passion for deep tech and a proven track record in startup environments

In this role, you’ll:

  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to oversee critical engineering projects, ensuring efficient execution that meets defined objectives and timelines
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among teams, including engineering and R&D, to align technology development with business strategy
  • Monitor project timelines, deliverables, and milestones, ensuring alignment with broader company goals while proactively addressing obstacles
  • Work alongside the CTO to align engineering goals with company-wide objectives, prioritising initiatives that maximise impact and scalability
  • Advocate for and implement best practices in project management and engineering processes to enhance productivity and quality across teams
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, empowering team members to contribute ideas and solutions that drive progress
  • Manage and track the patent portfolio in coordination with legal teams while stimulating ideation within the technical team
  • Monitor and report internally on relevant scientific literature and industrial trends, including insights from key conferences and business fairs

Your Profile

  • An academic background in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a solid understanding of deep tech and its applications in the semiconductor industry
  • Extensive experience in project management, ideally within a technology-focused startup, with a proven track record of managing complex projects from conception to execution
  • Strong grasp of the challenges and opportunities within deep tech, particularly in scaling technology for industrial applications
  • Experience working in fast-paced startup environments, demonstrating adaptability and a hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience in driving innovation and developing market-ready technological solutions

Additional Qualifications 

  • Experience in the deep-tech industry, particularly in identifying and securing public funding opportunities
  • Collaboration with universities to integrate cutting-edge knowledge into technical teams
  • Expertise in R&D processes and patent portfolio management
  • Ability to synthesise and communicate scientific value effectively

Please note that we are looking for support in the Aachen office of our portfolio company. Eligibility to work within the EU is required as well.
