Position Summary
SHEIN Global Security and Risk Management (GSRM) is a global security organization that oversees security infrastructure, risk management, data privacy, business fraud, governance, and regulatory compliance across SHEIN’s global footprint. It is composed of a team of security professionals, innovators and thought leaders that have had decades of global security experience, led large scale transformations, and served in Fortune 500 executive roles.
We’re seeking a full-time Senior Privacy Counsel (Official title: Privacy Counsel) for our San Diego-based office, who will advise on global data protection and compliance matters, focusing in particular on North American and South American privacy compliance. As a key part of SHEIN’s growing Privacy Team, the Senior Privacy Counsel will provide privacy and data protection guidance and advice globally and help administer SHEIN’s Privacy Program. The Senior Privacy Counsel will play a highly visible and impactful role at SHEIN and will report to the Chief Privacy Officer while working directly with senior leadership, internal and external stakeholders, and regulators on privacy and data protection matters.
Job Responsibilities
- Advise marketing, operations, information technology, and human resources teams on compliance with data protection laws, regulations, and practices in the Americas, focusing particularly on US privacy laws (ex: CCPA, COPPA, etc.), PIPEDA, and LGPD.
- Conduct internal privacy assessments and compliance examinations, including privacy impact assessments, transfer impact assessments, and third-party risk management reviews.
- Design, implement and maintain external privacy notices and related disclosures, as well as enterprise-wide data protection policies, procedures, and standards.
- Advise on discussions with supervisory, regulatory, and data protection authorities.
- Maintain and update form data protection agreements, related questionnaires, and assessments.
- Assist marketing, information technology, security, human resources, and procurement teams in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating data protection related agreements.
- Provide legal and strategic advice and guidance in support of cross-border data flows and related projects across SHEIN.
- Foster a culture of privacy compliance and privacy by design.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments in data protection to anticipate emerging trends, spot issues, and help SHEIN make informed strategic decisions.
Job Requirements
- Experienced lawyer with 5 to 7 years of privacy experience at either an international law firm, US government agency, or in-house (ideally at a technology company) is preferred.
- Deep working knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, with practical experience advising on cross-border transfers, data protection agreements, data subject access requests, and audience engagement technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently gather information, issue-spot, and problem-solve in a professional, creative and ethical manner.
- Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and independent, sound judgment.
- A professional, confident demeanor and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to communicate effectively and positively with clients and all levels of management, including providing counsel to senior level executives.
- Detail oriented, strong work ethic, responsible team player.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to changing demands and shifting priorities quickly in a fast paced, high-growth environment.
- A willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and businesses.
- CIPP-US/CIPP-C/CIPT/CIPM and/or technical background strongly preferred.
- Fluent written and spoken English is required; bi-lingual Mandarin speakers are strongly preferred.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the United States (California preferred).

Pay Range
$140,000 - $200,000 USD
