A rare opportunity has opened at WLTX-TV in Columbia, S.C. For the first time in nearly 20 years, we are looking to hire an Anchor who can engage with, advocate for, and serve our community while showcasing excellent news judgement, upholding journalistic principles and producing high quality storytelling moments.

The successful candidate is open to a flexible work schedule, is a newsroom leader and team player, is capable of lifting our newscasts with a dynamic delivery, has excellent interviewing and writing skills and the ability to clearly and calmly communicate and ad-lib in breaking news or weather situations. The candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with a co-anchor and other team members. Experience in reporting, getting market exclusive interviews and field anchoring major events is required. Having the ability to effectively utilize social media to engage our audience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities: 

• Anchor multiple evening newscasts
• Creatively build and leverage external partnerships to forge new relationships and increase community impact
• Generate unique and compelling stories and show ideas around topics impacting our community
• Take a leadership role in newscast content and production.
• Asking tough but fair questions
• Represent WLTX and our On Your Side brand at communicty events, civic engagements, and other public appearances.
• Collaborate with producers, reporters, photojournalists, managers, and other team members
• Copyediting
• Mentoring

 

Requirements: 

• Journalism and/or Communication degree from an accredited college or university
• Understand the tenets of professional Journalism
• At least 10 years of journalism experience, including regular opportunities to report and anchor newscasts
• Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib
• Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills
• Strong social media presence
• Strong leadership qualities with prior experience in motivating, engaging, and recognizing team members on multiple projects
• Involvement in the community and the ability to build meaningful relationships
• The ability to coach and collaborate with teammates on content projects
• Sound news judgment and a proven track record of producing enterprise content
• Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
