TEGNA is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst, based in Tysons, VA (hybrid schedule), reporting to the Senior Manager of Tax Reporting. This position will work across the corporate tax department to support TEGNA’s critical tax provision and tax compliance processes.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as excellent attention to detail. In this role, you will need to be a self-starter who is not afraid to tackle unfamiliar assignments and stretch your tax technical skills. Success in this role is dependent on the ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740
  • Assist with the preparation of supporting schedules for tax-related disclosures including financial statements
  • Analyze and reconcile tax account activity
  • Prepare provision-to-return reconciliations and monthly cash flow analysis for income tax payments and refunds
  • Prepare memos to document tax impact of transactions and positions taken by the Company
  • Monitor tax legislation and financial accounting standard updates, planning for the potential tax impact on the Company
  • Review and update the Company’s uncertain tax positions
  • Assist with the calculation of permanent and temporary book-tax differences
  • Assist with effective tax rate and cash tax payment forecasting process
  • Provide support with Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 internal controls related to tax department processes
  • Prepare calculations to support U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns
  • Calculate federal and state estimates and extension payments
  • Communicate with co-sourced tax preparer regarding information requests, review comments, and deadlines
  • Respond to notices from federal and state tax authorities
  • Complete special projects as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting or finance
  • Master’s degree and CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 2-5 years tax experience at a public accounting firm or in-house corporate tax department
  • Media industry experience a plus
  • Sound understanding of U.S. federal and state income tax concepts
  • Working knowledge of ASC Topic 740, Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Ability to research, document, and discuss technical tax issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule as projects require
  • Adept at prioritization, responsiveness, and understanding sense of urgency
  • Ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously
  • Strong analytical MS Excel skills are required
  • Experience with Corptax income tax software and/or Oracle Cloud ERP a plus
