TEGNA is expanding our sourcing and procurement team. We are seeking an experienced Category Manager to develop and maintain the sourcing category management process for our non-tech indirect category spend (to include marketing, sales, legal, facilities, corporate etc.), overseeing all non tech indirect categories with suppliers in various subcategories. Reporting to our Head of Sourcing and Procurement, the Category Manager is accountable for maintaining rigor and thoroughness using best-in-class sourcing and procurement processes to achieve annual cost reduction targets. The selected candidate will build relationships within these functions, gain a deep understanding of the business, and utilize strong cross-functional leadership skills to achieve results. Attention to detail and a strong sense of curiosity, along with powerful analytical skills, will also be essential components of success.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the indirect category (to include marketing, sales, legal, facilities, corporate) contract portfolio and indirect category spend database to maintain and improve operational quality, cost control, and efficiency
- Plan and lead all category projects, programs, and initiatives for the assigned work streams related to indirect category spend
- Manage all services, vendor relationships, and contracts that flow through the department via operations, sales or customer requests
- Administer to and support, as needed, all ad-hoc sales calls and scheduling of single use, full-time services across the TEGNA Enterprise footprint
- Provide indirect category quotes, price negotiation, and completion of order requests; maintain reports on all sourcing requests (initial quote, inquiries, completed orders and/or disconnects)
- Maintain a working knowledge of facilities within TEGNA's footprint
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives for key products and ownership of supplier pricing process
- Maintain rigor and thoroughness using best-in-class sourcing and procurement processes, including: 7-step strategic sourcing process, baselining analysis, total cost of ownership analysis, etc.
- Manage the commodity work stream or portfolio, including:
- Achieving success through leadership and motivation of professionals in the business units
- Accountability for annual cost reduction targets
- Managing regional or local relationships; may work on components of global deals
- Managing a key business unit sourcing priority for indirect category products
- Managing all aspects of supplier performance and execution
- Sourcing Strategy development and on-going evaluation for key BU product suppliers
- Handle administration of supply base within the assigned work streams to:
- Maintain Annual Count
- Track expenditures
- New supplier approvals
- Engage supply base to keep them motivated and engaged towards major initiatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field required; MBA a plus
- At least 3-6 years of experience in management of indirect categories (to include marketing, sales, legal, facilities, corporate) in a procurement or strategic sourcing function
- Experience with a technology or broadcasting company
- Experience leading a category function/team to drive savings, optimize supply base, and achieve results
- Demonstrated achievement of cost reduction through target setting and execution for >$50M in category spend
- Project management experience of procurement projects (5+ years preferred)
- Ability to build relationships with stakeholders, think analytically, and solve problems creatively
