About the role:
The Director of Government Affairs will play a strategic leadership role in shaping and advancing the organization's public policy goals by building strong relationships with government officials, legislators, and regulatory bodies. This individual will drive the development and implementation of advocacy strategies, ensure alignment with organizational objectives, and effectively represent the company’s interests at the local, state, and federal levels. This role will report to the Chief Administrative Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Government Relations Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive government affairs strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and priorities.
- Advocacy & Lobbying: Lead lobbying efforts at the federal, state, and local levels to advocate for favorable policies and regulations that support the company’s objectives.
- Policy Analysis & Reporting: Monitor and analyze emerging policy issues, legislative developments, and regulatory changes that may impact the company. Provide strategic advice to senior management on potential risks and opportunities.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with government officials, legislators, regulatory agencies, and key stakeholders in the public policy space. Serve as the primary point of contact for government affairs-related inquiries.
- Coalition Building: Identify and develop strategic partnerships with industry groups, coalitions, trade associations, and other stakeholders to strengthen the company’s advocacy efforts.
- Communication: Act as a spokesperson on public policy issues for the organization. Prepare and deliver testimony, position papers, and communications to government entities.
- Legislative Tracking: Manage a system for tracking and reporting on relevant legislation, regulations, and other governmental initiatives.
- Compliance & Ethics: Ensure that all advocacy efforts comply with lobbying laws, regulations, and internal corporate governance standards.
- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with legal, regulatory, and public relations teams to ensure coordinated and effective communication of public policy positions.
- Public Affairs Strategy: Collaborate with communications teams to manage public relations, media engagement, and crisis management related to government affairs issues.
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or lobbying, ideally in a related industry (e.g., healthcare, energy, technology, finance, etc.).
- Proven track record of successful advocacy and lobbying at the federal, state, and/or local levels.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, including key players and decision-making dynamics.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex policy issues for diverse audiences.
- Established network of relationships with policymakers, regulators, and key influencers.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities.
- Experience in strategic planning, stakeholder management, and coalition-building.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards, with an understanding of lobbying compliance requirements.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $176,000 - $204,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
