Summary:

Responsible for the day to day coordination of patient care within an assigned team of Registered Nurses.  Responsibilities include assessment of referrals, case management, maintenance of standards of practice, patient assignments, staff coverage, quality assessment, and improvement and communication with all members of the interdisciplinary team, in accordance with the policies and standards of WCC and regulatory agencies. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Completion of an accredited nursing program.

Must have at least six (6) months of experience with West Cancer Center and three (3) years as a Registered Nurse.

 

R.N. with current license to practice as a professional nurse in the state of employment.

 

All new hires and transfers are required to have BLS certification.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates department operations including scheduling, patient assignments, monitoring department activities and collaborates with other departments to ensure effectiveness of operations and the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Provides patient care according to the responsibilities of Infusion Nurse.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with patients and families and other health team members.
  • Demonstrates leadership and promotes professional practice of members of nursing care team.
  • Maintains and develops a competent, productive, and quality conscious staff in collaboration with Clinical Resource Nurse and Nursing Director.
  • Ensures staff maintains compliance with federal, state, local, system, and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists the Director with payroll and timekeeping for the staff in the clinical area.
  • Participates in Medical Oncology operational meetings and other committees as needed for coordination and operational improvements.
  • Creates a positive work environment and contributes to staff retention.
  • The Infusion RN will be administering chemotherapy according to research trials (if applicable to that site) and therefore will be required to sign-on to the research studies after completion of 6 months.   

Supervision Provided by this Position:

There are no supervisory responsibilities, but this position functions in a lead role, providing guidance, direction, and training to the staff working in medical oncology.

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • Frequent invasive & noninvasive patient contact
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to handle and administer narcotics as needed.
  • Normal hearing; normal vision, including color, night, and peripheral vision; Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.; Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat, kneel, reach, bend, crawl and twist throughout the shift; Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing; Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motions
