About the Role
We are seeking a forward-thinking Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Aerospace Ground Test Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong design background who excels at optimizing mechanical workflows and improving engineering processes. You will be responsible for developing scalable, efficient design solutions that support ground test programs—without direct involvement in fabrication or hands-on testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design process improvements for ground test equipment and tooling
- Collaborate with Design and Technical Writing teams to streamline data access and documentation workflows
- Develop and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications using tools such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or AutoCAD
- Coordinate with systems, instrumentation, and manufacturing engineers to ensure designs meet test and operational requirements
- Integrate composite material considerations into fixture and tooling designs, including layup strategies and bonding interfaces
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards, safety protocols, and quality assurance requirements
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship Required: This position requires access to export-controlled information under U.S. law. Only U.S. citizens are eligible in accordance with ITAR/EAR regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in Aerospace or Defense
- Proficiency in NX, AutoCAD and engineering documentation tools
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated experience with composite materials and design for manufacturability
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a focus on process efficiency
Standards & Compliance Expertise
The ideal candidate will have a strong command of key mechanical and aerospace standards, including:
- AWS (American Welding Society) – weld design, inspection, and documentation
- ASTM – material properties and testing methods
- AMS (Aerospace Material Specifications) – aerospace-grade materials and processing
- ASME Y14.5-2009 – geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing practices
Expertise in these standards is essential for producing certifiable, high-quality designs that meet aerospace industry expectations.
