The Senior IT Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist is integral in the ongoing evolution and reinforcement of Geotab's complex, globally distributed cloud infrastructure. You will uniquely navigates the intersection of innovation and stability, leading the charge in strategic infrastructure development to ensure the seamless integration and optimization of Geotab’s SaaS solution. Central to this role is the refinement of existing systems and the implementation of advanced methodologies for automation, prioritizing system performance, scalability, and resilience while upholding paramount considerations for cost efficiency and robust security measures. What you'll do:

As a Senior Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting high-transaction, globally distributed cloud infrastructure and developing infrastructure for deploying and managing Geotab’s SaaS solution. Working closely with Technical Services teams, this role requires strong technical knowledge in cloud technologies, server operations, network protocols, and technical architectures. Responsibilities include maintaining cloud operations with a focus on servers and infrastructure management, cost optimization, and security. The role involves refining existing systems and implementing advanced methodologies for automation, prioritizing system performance, scalability, and resilience while considering cost efficiency and robust security measures. Additionally, the role incorporates AI into cloud operations to enhance automation, optimize performance, and ensure scalable and resilient infrastructure.. You will provide proactive support 24/7 for production and disaster recovery data center operations.

How you'll make an impact

  • Implement automated deployment strategies for patches and upgrades to reduce downtime and ensure a seamless update process.
  • Develop predictive monitoring systems using AI/ML algorithms to proactively troubleshoot issues in high availability environments.
  • Implement new and optimize existing infrastructure as code (IaC) practices to automate server provisioning and configuration, ensuring scalability and rapid deployment.
  • Implement comprehensive data governance frameworks using advanced monitoring tools and AI-driven analytics to optimize data flow across multiple environments.
  • Establish self-healing mechanisms and fault-tolerant architecture to minimize manual intervention during outages and ensure quick recovery.
  • Introduce machine learning models to predict resource lifecycle needs, optimizing provisioning, decommissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Employ advanced data visualization techniques and predictive analytics to generate real-time, interactive dashboards for proactive decision-making and streamlined cloud operations.
  • Implement AI-driven tracking for real-time auditing and continuous compliance adherence in internal server inventory management.
  • Develop an integrated automation framework using AI-powered bots to streamline and optimize repetitive tasks, reducing manual efforts and improving overall efficiency.
  • Apply AI-driven cost prediction models to optimize cloud spending, creating dynamic thresholds and proactive cost-saving strategies.
  • Introduce AI-driven anomaly detection systems to provide real-time insights into security controls and tool effectiveness, enhancing the overall security posture.
  • Utilize machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics to preempt operational discrepancies and ensure a seamless user experience.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement using different collaboration tools to streamline communication and optimize operational processes between internal departments

What you'll bring to the role

  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree specialization in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • 5-8 years of experience in IT/Cloud Operations, demonstrating a track record in spearheading complex cloud infrastructure projects at a senior level.
  • Mastery of advanced Cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform or AWS), paired with a comprehensive grasp of IP Networking, Network Security, Firewalls, and Load Balancing in enterprise-grade environments, ensuring alignment with robust security standards and cost-effective measures.
  • Advanced proficiency in maintaining applications across diverse Linux and Windows environments, coupled with advanced skills in system automation for monitoring and deployment purposes using cutting-edge tools and methodologies.
  • Expertise in Database Administration, demonstrating advanced capabilities in query analysis and performance tuning in diverse database clusters such as MS-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and sophisticated platforms like BigQuery.
  • Proficiency in advanced version control systems such as GitHub and GitLab, coupled with a deep understanding of continuous integration, log collection, and analysis in complex cloud environments.
  • Mastery in scripting languages (Bash Shell, PowerShell, Python) and advanced experience in employing configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Octopus Deploy for intricate infrastructure.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, showcasing exceptional organizational and leadership skills at a strategic level.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to build relationships across all organizational levels, facilitating seamless communication in high-stakes situations.
  • Proficiency not only in Google Suite for business but also a thorough understanding of advanced software applications and platforms tailored for strategic organizational development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and adaptability in a flat organization, showing the ability to lead innovation and transformation within dynamic cloud environments
  • Associate cloud certification related to cloud architecture (GCP, AWS), Professional Certification in IT (GCP, AWS) highly valued

The annual base salary for this position is anticipated to be the range listed below. Geotab offers various perks and benefits and other compensation components that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary for this position would depend on a variety of factors such as but not specific to skills, qualifications, education and overall experience, including the location the applicant lives or intends to live while performing the job. This also includes equity with other team members and alignment with local market data. All offers of employment are contingent upon proof of eligibility to work and the individual's ability to pass a background check.
