Key Responsibilities:
The Engineering Manager will be joining a 20+ person engineering org and leading a cross-functional, product-focused team. This role will be responsible for building AI-powered tools that directly impact clinician workflows and user experience. Managers at Freed are expected to be hands-on technically, contributing code, guiding technical decisions, and fostering a high-performance team culture. The position spans across products including Freed’s core AI scribe, its EHR integrations platform, and potentially its enterprise growth suite, depending on fit. This is a high-impact role with direct ownership over product delivery and team development.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Seniority:
-
8+ years of experience in full-stack software engineering or product-oriented ML engineering, with previous leadership or mentorship experience.
Work Experience:
- Leadership experience - has had direct reports and has pioneered projects
- Experience juggling being a strong IC while also being a leader on projects
- Strong preference for product-oriented AI experience over research-focused work
- Ideally experience in both big tech and startups
Education:
- CS degree, preferably from a reputable university
Hard Skills:
- Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, NodeJS, SQL, and Git.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, HTTP, and VSCode / Cursor.
Soft Skills:
- A player-coach mindset, excited to lead while staying actively involved in technical work.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable working in a fully remote environment (most of the team is on the West Coast, but hours are flexible)
- A product-focused approach, understanding how technical decisions impact user experience and business outcomes.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt, especially in applying AI technologies to our use case.
ROLE DETAILS:
- Salary: $225k - $265k
- Equity: Competitive
- Visa sponsorship available: Have not in past and not preferred, but possible for right candidate
- Hybrid Work Policy: Hybrid in SF Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
