Junior Accountant

Position Overview: The Accountant is responsible for working closely with the Cash Management, Payroll, Accounts Payable and Billing teams to ensure that the day-to-day operations are accomplished. The role involves preparing bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account analyses, preparing payroll journal entries, and other duties as assigned to assist the Accounting Department with the monthly closing and other ad-hoc projects. The Accountant collaborates with other departments to ensure transactions are recorded correctly for financial reporting, audit purposes, as well as in response to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare bank reconciliations and journal entries for cash and fuel hedge accounts
- Apply cash receipts for wires, checks, and lock box deposits
- Act as a back-up for vouchering of capital payments for City OMB's approval
- Enter monthly electricity sales tax charged to tenants into the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance portal for reporting and payment purposes
- Prepare bi-weekly payroll expense and accrual journal entries
- Prepare monthly payroll reports to the Budget department for City reimbursement
- Track and maintain the Corporation’s fixed assets schedules and prepare monthly entries
- Work on ad hoc projects as needed and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 0-2 years of general accounting experience
- Proven quantitative and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Experience in MRI and Great Plains Software a plus.
- New York City Residency is required withing 180 days of hire.
Salary Range
$64,000 - $66,000 USD
