WGRZ, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Buffalo, NY, is looking for a Digital Content Producer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate loves news and working on the cutting edge of streaming, digital, and social media. This position will produce original and engaging content for all WGRZ platforms that will reach our customers whenever and wherever they are, on whatever device they are using at the time. This person will also manage content produced by others, including copy editing, for our various desktop/mobile/social outlets. The candidate will also assign and support field crews.
The successful candidate is innovative and will help expand our OTT experience (WGRZ+) to bring must-see news and weather content into our viewers’ homes. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, video and photo-editing skills and the ability to work a flexible schedule. More important, the person we hire will want to win.
Responsibilities:
- Program our 24/7 OTT stream (WGRZ+) with newscasts, breaking news and weather, extended interviews, original content as well as archival material with overall goal to increase minutes watched and create loyal users
- Produce audience first, engaging content through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements
- Focus on accuracy and balance in articles and social content through editing and working with reporters.
- Report news as it happens online (strong breaking news skills) and generate web traffic through application of advanced social media skills
- Review and respond to news releases, news tips, emails, and user-generated content to identify unique, local, and engaging content
- Social listening: monitor social media for breaking news, find interesting stories, track trends and report findings to newsroom
- Participate in editorial meetings and conversations, including pitching stories; Work with news and digital departments to optimize existing content
- Use digital and social metrics to inform editorial decisions and increase time spent on platforms
- Coordinate interviews for both streaming and linear
- Answering phones, listening to police scanners, gathering information for producers
- Tuning in live shots and taking in feeds
Requirements:
- Two years’ experience working as a digital content producer with streaming experience preferred
- Experience with Edius or similar non-linear editing software and graphic production skills
- Understanding and interest in digital/video metrics and analytics
- Strong communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources with an ability to work well with varied personalities within deadlines
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
Pay Range
$20 - $20 USD
