Staff Software Engineer, E-Commerce

About the team:
E-Commerce Platform is a new backend team at Box critical to our Growth organization - responsible for building the systems that enable all existing and prospective customers of any size and scale to purchase, adopt, and manage their Box subscription through our self-service experiences. This work will help Box expand into new international markets, provide all customers access to Box’s full suite of offerings, and enhance our pricing & discount offer engine to fuel business growth. These services power purchases that make up a sizable portion of Box’s revenue, so uptime and reliability are paramount. Near-term projects include modernizing our tech stack to improve performance and developer productivity as well as expanding backend capabilities for purchasing Box which will generate net-new recurring revenue for the business.
Who you are:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience with an understanding of best practices
- Fluent in at least one of the OOP language (Java or/and PHP)
- Hands-on experience with building highly scalable distributed systems
- Good understanding of scalability and observability practices
- Act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions
- You are a problem solver and you look for a team of like-minded people
- You have a deep understanding of algorithms, data structures and software design
- You are experienced in helping define REST APIs
- Demonstrable experience in guiding and mentoring a team of high performing engineers
- Experience leading cross functional projects
- Have proficient knowledge of software design
- Solid experience with automated testing principles and frameworks
- Must speak English proficiently
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience in the e-commerce domain
- Experience working with distributed teams in different time zones
- Prior experience with NodeJS, and/or React
