WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
Query and Search are foundational components of the Box Content Cloud, enabling customers to organize and discover business critical content. The Query Infra team powers both these features, while also powering multiple discovery experiences in our first party products like Box Hubs, Box Apps, Box Relay and more. This team handles a tremendous amount of scale and complexity, with both continuing to grow on a daily basis.
But, we've only scratched the surface of what's possible. That's where you come in!
The criticality of this area has grown exponentially with the advent of generative AI, and as we embark on the mission to deliver a next-generation Box for Intelligent Content Management, we're looking for a Engineering Manager to come join us and play a pivotal role. You will have the opportunity to lead a team of talented, collaborative and fun engineers, solving some of the toughest challenges, as we build out the future of content management in the cloud. The work you do will have an immediate impact on the productivity of millions of users, at some of the most important enterprises of our time.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Partner with product management and technical leadership to define platform vision and roadmaps.
- Lead design and implementation efforts for new services and components of our platform, from the ground up.
- Coach and mentor engineers, enabling them to do their best work.
- Drive design and implementation of scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability and efficiency.
- Work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, Elasticsearch, Spark, Istio, etc.
- Strengthen engineering processes, principles, and culture within the team and across Box, by championing a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and blameless retrospection.
WHO YOU ARE
- You have 6+ years of experience in software engineering with 2 or more of those years in a management role.
- You often collaborate with engineering and business leaders across organizations and disciplines.
- You have led a team of engineers, are able to assess, communicate and drive projects, and deliver strong business outcomes.
- You have experience owning and operating highly available business critical systems.
- You have a proven track record of building services and/or tooling in one or more languages (e.g., Java, Go, Scala, Python).
- You have experience working with message queues and/or streaming data systems like Kafka/PubSub.
- You have a Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with public clouds like Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services or Azure.
- Experience deploying and operating high volume and velocity microservices on Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch/Solr/Lucene or other information retrieval systems.
