Who we are looking for:
This Interior Attribute Engineer role at Slate involves leading the development, integration, and validation of interior attribute requirements for electric vehicles. The position requires collaboration across teams, a customer-focused approach, and responsibility for setting technical targets, ensuring feasibility, and executing validation.
What you get to do:
- Lead the development of Vehicle Level Targets for all interior attributes, ensuring feasibility and executing validation.
- Oversee total vehicle integration of interior attribute requirements, including feasibility and validation at the vehicle level.
- Identify and resolve integration and design issues during vehicle development.
- Conduct and lead Interior Attribute team meetings with product development teams, including systems, components, packaging, manufacturing, and service.
- Set and manage Vehicle Technical Specifications and Functional Vehicle Targets using a Voice of the Customer approach.
- Manage the cascade of technical requirements to systems and components teams and evaluate Functional Requirements against Vehicle Features at each development stage.
- Highlight risks and priorities at various gates in the development process.
- Perform physical testing and validation of Functional Requirements through full vehicle testing, bench, or system/component tests.
- Contribute to strategic Vehicle Performance planning, including Benchmarking, Weight Management, Durability & Reliability, and HMI evaluations.
- Build and grow a small team of direct line engineers as the product plan matures.
What you bring to the team:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field from an ABET-accredited or comparable program.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in interior vehicle development with a solid understanding of vehicle systems.
- Strong communication, team building, and relationship-management skills with the ability to lead discussions and drive technical trade-offs to achieve optimized solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle technical systems and development processes, including the ability to establish technical targets, collaborate with teams to assess feasibility (both virtually and physically), and validate outcomes with statistical confidence.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as NHTSA/FMVSS, CARB, and EPA requirements.
- Design Release Engineering experience in fields including Body Systems, Interior Systems, or Thermal Systems.
