Software Engineer I - Core Edge Processing

We are looking for a Software Engineer I to join one of our Cloud Platform Engineering teams at Marqeta! You’ll be joining the Core Edge Processing team, who are responsible for our cardholder-facing real-time services and infrastructure. This team runs Java services in both our physical datacenters and the cloud, handling both cardholder traffic and cryptographic functions that Marqeta’s card issuing platform requires. You’ll be at the heart of moving all these workloads to the cloud, adopting cloud-based card network services to accelerate our path out of physical datacenters, all while maintaining customer trust.

Marqeta’s platform supports 99.999+% cardholder availability across multiple regions globally, serving over 5 billion transactions annually. The Core Edge Processing team operates at the center of everything Marqeta does, and there is endless opportunity to make a sizable impact across your team and the whole business.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely within the Toronto Metro and Vancouver Metro area in Canada. We’d love for you to join us!

The Impact You'll Have

  • Design, develop, and deliver high quality products.
  • Develop testable, scalable, trustworthy systems that eliminate manual tasks.
  • Promote a DevOps culture through automation, ongoing enhancement, and team-wide responsibility.
  • Prioritize and ship features in line with the roadmap.
  • Deliver work effectively in a team environment.
  • Participate in core processes of the team (planning, on-call rotations, metrics review, etc).

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree. In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
  • Experience developing in Java, however we welcome experience in other programming languages. 
  • Experience with cloud computing. We use AWS, but welcome other cloud experience. 
  • The ability to demonstrate humility, empathy, and to take constructive feedback positively.
  • A desire to grow in your career, learn, share ideas and help others grow and learn.
  • The capacity to work productively on cross-functional teams and take a collaborative, team oriented approach.

Nice-To-Haves

  • Experience with payments or the FinTech space.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform and/or Docker.
  • Experience in software delivery pipelines and CI/CD systems.
  • Contributions to technical blogs, a public Github repo, or to open source projects.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. 

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD,  is: 76,300 - 95,400
