Director, Media Strategy & Business Development

The NFL Media Distribution team is a small team that executes and manages partnerships across a range of business models and structures, with a focus on live game distribution and related licensing. The team also contributes to the strategic direction of the NFL’s owned and operated media assets (e.g., the NFL App, NFL FAST Channel) and leads cross-functional planning and strategic efforts on various special projects that support and drive League priorities.  

Specific activities include execution and partnership management, market and competitive analysis, business and rights valuation, and go-to-market strategy and deal negotiation. The department’s activities and accomplishments have contributed to the growth and success of the National Football League by distributing content in a manner that reaches and engages both new and existing fans, increases revenue for the business, and creates long-term strategic value for the 32 member clubs. 

This person will focus on deepening relationships with current partners, identifying and developing new business opportunities, as well as the formation of strategic partnerships and alliances.  This role requires a strong self-starter who can combine a solid understanding and interest of the media space with a comprehensive foundation in business analysis. This role works closely with many departments across the NFL’s New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles offices including Broadcasting, NFL Films, Sponsorship, DTC Strategy, Affiliate, Media Sales, Legal, Finance, Marketing and NFL Digital Media Product & Engineering Teams.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Identify, negotiate and manage strategic relationships with media partners 
  • Conduct financial analyses and develop proposals to evaluate new business opportunities 
  • Produce presentations for senior executives inside and outside the organization  
  • Lead day-to-day partnership management (product & project management)  
  • Contribute to strategy development efforts   
  • Work with media partners to drive innovation to enhance the live game viewing experience  
  • Work alongside, manage, and help develop a group of junior professionals across a variety of projects 
  • Maintain market intelligence on media and sports rights more broadly  
  • Contribute to positive group culture to foster high performance, efficient processes and professional development 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 8-10 years work experience. Investment banking or consulting experience preferred (preferably in TMT groups)  
  • 5+ years of management experience  
  • Bachelor’s degree, with an MBA preferred 

Other Key Attributes / Characteristics 

  • Candidates must be able to show experience and understanding of the media industry and key trends within the media landscape 
  • Adept at negotiating sound commercial agreements, and possessing a solid understanding of contracts, particularly licensing arrangements  
  • Deep understanding of financial analysis and modeling  
  • Proven ability to think strategically and analytically  
  • A team player who can establish credibility quickly to effectively interface at all levels in a complex organization 
  • Strong attention to detail; expected to execute tasks with minimal error and high level of efficiency 
  • Strong, confident personal style that can persuade and motivate others to accomplish corporate goals while holding team members accountable to a high standard of performance  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to efficiently produce written materials and analysis in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Salary

$165,000 - $205,000 USD
